Situation — King of Cups. A king sits on a throne set in a restless sea, holding a cup he does not look into, one hand raised in a gesture of calm. The water moves under him and his face does not. That is where you are with this decision: you are the composed one in the room, the person other people bring their feelings to, and you have been managing the temperature of this thing rather than resolving it. The card is not flattery. It says your steadiness is real and it has become the reason nothing has changed. You are holding a cup whose contents you have not examined in a while.
Obstacle
The HermitIX · Major Arcana
Obstacle — The Hermit. An old figure on a summit, lantern held out, a single star inside the glass, and nobody else on the mountain. In this seat the withdrawal is the problem. You have been deliberating alone — turning it over on the drive home, at two in the morning, in the gaps between meetings — and treating that solitude as diligence. It is not diligence any more. The lantern only lights one step ahead, and you have been standing on that step for a long time. The people this decision affects have information you do not have, and you have not asked them for it.
Advice
The TowerXVI · Major Arcana
Advice — The Tower. Lightning strikes the crown from a high tower and two figures fall through open air. Everyone reads this card as disaster and it is the only card in your spread telling you to move. What it actually says is that the structure you are protecting is not load-bearing — it only looks like it is because nothing has tested it. A decision made now, by you, out loud, will break something. A decision deferred will break the same thing later, at a moment you do not choose, in front of people you would rather not be in front of.
